What Mentors Do

Sage mentors support local elementary classrooms through weekly school visits. Depending on the classroom and school, mentors may:

  • Help individuals and small groups of students academically
  • Support students who are still learning English
  • Assist teachers with general classroom activities
  • Spend lunch and recess time talking and playing with mentees
  • Support students socially and emotionally

The Commitment

1+ Hour Per Week

Mentors are required to mentor at least one hour a week, with many doing more than that.

Onboarding & Training

Complete required onboarding and training events before you start mentoring.

Consistency Matters

Students and teachers look forward to Sage mentors. Regular attendance and communication is key.

Participation in Club Events

Although optional, we highly recommend attending club events and socials.

Mentor Support

You won't be on your own. Sage provides the training, resources, and support you need to succeed.

  • Training before you begin
  • A school director at your specific site
  • Clear expectations and resources
  • A large and welcoming club community
  • Reimbursed transportation expenses
Sage mentors are there to support students, teachers, and classrooms as consistent, positive role models. You will not be expected to teach alone or replace school staff.
